Pro-Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova was in the papers for all the wrong reasons this week. The 28-year-old beauty famous for her right-hand and giving us plenty of reasons to use our right hands – #SorryNotSorry – revealed she’d failed a drug test at this year’s Australian Open.
A genuine legend on the court and one of the greatest athletes of all time, the current World No. 7 tested positive to meldonium, a cardiac drug recently banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
While Sharapova gets our heart rates up, apparently for the past 10 years she’s been taking the stuff to keep hers down and her game on point.
She’d reportedly been warned multiple times the ban was coming into place, but it’s a bit of a case of he said she said going on.
The ramifications were immediate, her personal sponsors Nike and TAG Heuer dropping her like New York’s Times Square Ball, and Porsche also postponing promo work with the five-time Grand Slam Singles winner.
She’s not the first woman athlete to get caught up in a shock drugs scandal obviously, but is she the hottest?
In our Poll of the Week we’ve got Sharapova up against fellow tennis great, 35-year-old Swiss Martina Hingis whose drug of choice was cocaine.
So who would you most like to play ball boy for? Blonde stunner Sharapova or the Swiss snorter Hingis who hit more than the ball straight down the line?
