The prestigious Wimbledon finals take place for the Men’s and Women’s Singles this weekend and Swiss champion Roger Federer kept the dream alive with a come from behind win over Marin
Seven-time champ Federer is now the most successful player at the majors with his record 307th singles win and showed the third-seed still had more stamina in the tank than many were giving him credit for. I’ve had the same problem.
He’s not into the finals just yet however having to face off against another big-server, Canadian sixth seed Milos Raonic in the semis, but it’s still a bloody great effort from a bloke who missed the French Open completely with a back injury.
Favourite to take out the Gentlemen’s Singles title though is Andy Murray after his win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the semis despite a scare from the 12th seed.
The Fed is second best in betting and was runner-up to Novak Djokovic in both 2014 and 2015 so is used to being beaten to the post. He has also found it hard in the past to hold back post-match tears turning into a blubbing “Bubba Watson” like mess.
And this is the inspiration for our Joke of the Week as we gear up for a Sunday night / Monday morning Wimbledon marathon, admittedly substituting the strawberries and cream for beer and beer!
After Roger Federer’s post-match speech my tearful girlfriend turned to me and said, “Why can’t you be more like HIM?”
“What?” I said. “Be more sensitive and cry?”
“No,” she replied. “Come second.”
